Lundhags introduces sustainable and waterproof shells - made by recycled and recyclable material

Press release January 2020 Lundhags now introduces the sustainable and timeless series of shells Lundhags Waterproof. Tested both in lab and in the outdoors. The shells (jacket and pants) are made of a newly developed three-layer membrane that ensures both waterproofness and breathability. LO is an extremely light and versatile shell garment with high performance, while LAKA is a slightly more robust with excellent comfort. The shells are made from recycled polyester that is fluorocarbonfree.

LO and LAKA are the result of a thorough development process, where hiking and high demands on sustainability were in focus. LO Jacket and Pant are perfect when demanding lightweight and packability, and the fabric has a stretch functionality for optimal freedom of movement and comfort.

– A common mistake is to choose an all-season garment that claims to handle all kinds of weather. It’s a little like choosing an all-season tire for the car, which is seldom a good idea. We don’t believe in this compromise, but instead choose garments according to the weather. When it rains, you choose a membrane; otherwise you should choose a fabric that breathes better. LO is light, doesn’t take a lot of space, and should always be in a backpack, says Lundhags designer Karin Kinander.

The shell products comprise a three-layer membrane for maximum performance, breathability and comfort, which was tested in both the laboratory and the mountains. The lab test were conducted by Sport Tech Research Centre in Östersund, an independent research center in collaboration with Mid Sweden University.

LO and LAKA are made of recycled polyester (i.e. old plastic bottles and waste material) and is completely fluorocarbon-free. Further, they are made from only one material (one fiber), making them recyclable. The recycled polyester is bluesign approved (www.bluesign.com).

Sustainability is part of our DNA and our philosophy is for our products to have a long life and minimal environmental impact. To succeed with this, all of our garments have a timeless design that passes on trends. They are robust, sustainable and recyclable material and in this case made by one material whick makes it totally recyclable when worn out, says Sara Wiksten, Head of Production and Sustainability.

The products will be available at www.lundhags.com, at Lundhags own factory stores and retailers from week 10.

The brand Lundhags was established in 1932 by shoemaker Jonas Lundhag, who started to produce shoes and boots in a small workshop in Jämtland in Sweden with the ambition of creating footwear that would last a lifetime. Our ambition remains the same, and function and durability continue to be the key foundations to Lundhags’ philosophy. Today, in addition to shoes and boots, Lundhags develops clothing, backpacks, and skates, and is one of the leading outdoor brands in Scandinavia. Lundhags still makes some of boots in Jämtland.
